When to go to a Western Medical doctor
You should go straight to a Western Medical Doctor for some kinds of pain. Here are some examples of red flags that indicate that you should go directly to the ER:
Neurological Headaches: These are a few examples of dangerous situations where you should see a doctor immediately. If a headache comes with vision or speaking difficulties, problems with balance or walking, or if the pain appears just after a contusion, head injury or car accident.
Back pain: Back pain that comes with fever can be dangerous, or if the patient has bladder or bowel incontinence, they should be treated at an urgent care facility. It's also important to check with an MD if the patient has a history of cancer or recent spinal injections, or has had recent trauma.
Abdominal pain: If abdominal or low back pain comes with bloody diarrhea, fever, lack of bowel control, bleeding after sex, shortness of breath, or persistent vomiting without a known reason.
Efficacy of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Pain Management:
Chinese Medicine has been improving health and providing pain relief to patients for thousands of years. In the last 50 years, it has also become very popular in Western countries, and is now recognized by the WHO as an effective mainstream medicine.
How does Acupuncture work?
The classical explanation of how Acupuncture works is that Acupuncture moves Qi and Blood and creates a balance in the body. Now we know that Acupuncture also:
works on the nervous system, stimulates blood circulation and internal organ systems, and balances the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems. In all of these ways, Acupuncture stimulates the regeneration of tissue (ligaments, tendons, bones...), resolves pain, and improves the overall health of patients.
How often should Acupuncture be done?
Acupuncture works with momentum! For acute issues, a few sessions may be enough; but for chronic issues it works best to receive treatments often for at least a few weeks, depending on the issue. For example, 5-year-old back pain can not be solved in two or three sessions. As a rule of thumb, you may need one month of treatment per each year of chronic pain.
That is why our office in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, offers discounted prices for acupuncture packages to make regular pain management treatment accessible to our patients.
How long it takes to feel the effect?
This varies a lot, depending on the particular condition of the patient. Pain relief is usually immediate for a tension headache or a simple neck pain; but for a patient with chronic foot pain due to nerve degeneration, it may take a month to start feeling significant relief. Patients typically will feel relief of pain right away during a treatment; but how long this relief lasts increases as they continue to receive more treatments. It also depends upon the patient's general health, as well as the severity of their injury or chronic issue.
Why Chinese Herbs?
Chinese Herbs are the Queen of Medicine, and they can treat almost anything.
Chinese Herbology has also been evolving for thousands of years, and it is a popular medicine in Asian countries. Day by day, it is gaining more popularity in Western countries due to its efficacy in improving all health issues.
They complement any physical treatment greatly because they can have a powerful anti-inflammatory effect.
